The 1/2 marathon in Windsor Great Park is a good race but the traffic jams are awful. So early on Sunday morning 10 keen runners plus loyal supporters line up on the Jubilee River tow-path for the 'alternative' Windsor race.
Our heroic organiser Rob explains the route and the team warms up for the event. |
Those thoughtful race organisers have even provided personalised bibs in case we forget who we are.
Off we go along the river passing ducks, cyclists and water stops which Rob has stocked up earlier. |

|
Above: Derek, Hugo, Roger and Angus show their elation in reaching the finishing line, which we note is actually 13.6 miles from the start so we have had a bonus half mile to finish the run.
Below: Chris follows Angus while Malcolm chooses the alternative way home. Rob appears to be carrying Toshi while Anne-Lucie reaches the finish for the second time. (Sorry Geoff, I missed you) |

|
The runners are then spoiled with great T-shirts PLUS medals PLUS a goody bag each. We all agree that this should be nominated to Runners World as one of the races of the year.
Many thanks Rob for a great morning. Now for those results in full: |

and bonuses for Geoff and Ann-Lucie who made it to the finish twice! |
Note that age adjusted times use the WAVA tables to work out what us oldies would have run when we were 35.
I have found that photo of Geoff so all runners are represented. The biscuit has got to go to our organiser Rob and Toshi who looks delighted to have made it back to the finish.
See you all next year. |
