It's been a week of moves. We've moved hotel from Quarry Bay to Wan Chai, and
moved office from the Centre to Quarry Bay.
Wan Chai is a good compromise between the office out East and the centre of
Hong Kong island. We can get to work a few steps along the MTR but still be
near the centre at weekends and in the evening.
The biggest challenge is getting to the MTR in the morning - because about a
million locals are going along the walkways in the opposite direction. |

Our last day in the old office. It may have a fantastic view from the 78th
floor but the space was more like the black hole of Calcutta. We had eight of
us working round this table on a few occasions.
|
Quarry Bay is not a smart
part of town but the new office turns out to be very impressive. The first
challenge is getting up the lift. This is the first time that I have had to
enter the floor number into a pad outside the lifts. You are then told which
lift to enter and the lift takes you to the floor that you requested. There are
no buttons in the lift itself so if you make a mistake you have to jump out and
try again.
|
 The move
has been planned with the precision of a military operation. Colour brochures,
all technology working on day one - it's a real credit to Phil Harmon and his
facilities team.
|
Friday night and we have a meal in Soho and then remember
that the Stones are in town. We head home via the HarbourFest stage and catch
the last 20 minutes of the concert. From the entrance to the venue we can watch
the big screens and hear everything as Mick and his band of 60 somethings do
their stuff.
Saturday and we are in Delaney's bar, conveniently round the corner from the
hotel for RugbyFest part 1. We watch the Wallabies hold off Scotland and then
head off for a great dinner in "Indochine", a rather classy
Vietnamese restaurant - celebrating my birthday a day early. |
Sunday and we are back in Delaney's for the England game.
The Brits getting a bit edgy as Wales pull ahead in the first half although the
English team starts pulling its weight in the second half.
Suprisingly (?) load of people in the pub (Aussies?) seem rather upset that
England wins in the end.
|
 The question is can
we get a job lot of England rugby shirts before the semis next weekend? |
