Driving south west from HCM City we come to the edge of the Mekong delta where we transfer to a river boat and cruise up the river past all sorts of river life. Here the river is the high street and boats are used for carrying everything. |
We stop for lunch for a meal of Elephant Ear Fish, a traditional Mekong delicacy, and very good it is too.
Later we stop at a tree nursery where the owner, 'Uncle Ho', treats us to his home made, and very potent, jack fruit wine.
Back in the bus we reach the lower Mekong where we need to take the ferry to cross to Can Tho.

The floating market in Can Tho Lo is very much a local affair. While there are tourists like us taking pictures, what you see is local people buying and selling everything from fruit and veg to pots and baskets. |
Boats advertise their wares with long poles. The one below seems to be selling everything. Smaller boats, often rowed by women, come and go, some laden high with pineapples, melons, dragon fruit and other local produce. |

You can even buy a boat although trade seems a little slow today.
