When the weather is good one of the favourite places to go is the Blackcomb Glacier. Two chair lifts and a T-bar followed by a steep walk take you to the top of this very long semi-pisted run.
You can either start by the double black and very steep "Blow hole" (yes please) or a more gentle ski down the glacier itself. The real pros go down "Spankies ladder" which we gave a miss this year.

While we were here the skiing on the glacier ranged from excellent powder to crustier spring snow.
Another great area is the Harmony area on Whistler mountain. Here you can find any number of off piste runs down bowls, off cornices and down steep gullies. Chris and Tommy showed off their snowboarding prowess while the rest of us carved wiggles in the perfect powder. The hut at the top of the lift (right), visited in arctic conditions, had great hot cider and mulled wine. |
Tommy and Chris had a great 4 days with the "Ride Tribe" snowboard group. Aussie instructor Al (left) got them all surfing the powder and by the end of the week they were chasing us down off-piste black runs.

Vicky catches up on the progress of her new business back in Europe while going up chairlifts. Shortly after this she loses the phone on the mountain. Amazingly we get it back the same evening - 3 cheers for honest Canadians.
So we give Whistler 8 out of 10. Great snow and runs (except when the top lifts are shut) but we miss those French and Swiss mountain huts and decent food. However we will be back.
